Have it Your Way: Personalization of
Network-Hosted Services
(Research Seminar,

Abstract:
This talk describes recent
trends in network-hosted services, with an emphasis on services provided over
wireless, and including both web and voice capabilities. Technologies
such as SIP and the Parlay/OSA standards allow a "convergence" of the networks,
enabling rich combinations of services that span the telephony and internet
realms. In order to take full advantage of these services, both private and
corporate users will increasingly need to personalize their usage of them.
We survey how techniques from XML, federated databases, and rules-based systems
are being applied to support such personalization
